These Mike Tomlin Redskins Rumors Are Stupid
By Ryan Flores
Mike Tomlin's Pittsburgh Steelers have not had the season they desired. This is mostly because starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was lost for the season due to an elbow injury. The Steelers have played a couple of close games since then, but ultimately inexperience from second-year quarterback Mason Rudolph has been the reason why the team is 1-4 on the year.
Regardless, Tomlin has yet to give the Rooney family a reason to consider moving on from him. He's won a Super Bowl. His players love him. This makes the rumors that the Washington Redskins could acquire him so far-fetched.
For the Redskins to acquire him, they would have to make such an insane deal with the Steelers, including draft picks. The Redskins would also have to blow Tomlin away and make him the highest paid coach in the league, which would likewise be crazy. Or the Redskins could wait and see if the Steelers fire Tomlin. That's likely not going to happen.
Yes, Dan Snyder is a fan of Tomlin's work with the Steelers and could see Tomlin as the savior of the franchise. However, Tomlin must recognize that even the best of coaches that have been in Washington have been unable to win, as the team has failed time and time again to create a winning culture despite almost regular turnover. It wouldn't make sense to sign a big deal to coach for Washington.
There is no way the Rooney family would want to get rid of a championship coach right now. There's also no way that Tomlin would want to leave a job where he can compete for a championship regularly.
Tomlin to the Redskins is just not going to happen.
