VIDEO: Nets Lose David Nwaba to Torn Achilles in Serious Blow to Kyrie Irving-Less Team
By Scott Rogust
The Brooklyn Nets have been without star point guard Kyrie Irving for a significant amount of time, though they've been treading water acceptably thanks to a few unexpected contributors. Unfortunately, that might be halted, as the Nets just lost a rising star to a serious injury. On Thursday, guard/forward David Nwaba suffered a torn right Achilles tendon during Brooklyn's game against the San Antonio Spurs.
The injury occurred during the fourth quarter of Thursday night's game. Nwaba began hustling past the 3-point line, before collapsing to the court with the non-contact injury.
Brooklyn announced that Nwaba will undergo surgery on his Achilles this Friday, very likely causing him to miss the remainder of the season.
The 26-year-old swingman etched his role as a quality scoring option off the bench. In 19 games with Brooklyn this season, Nwaba averaged 5.3 points and 2.3 rebounds.
Brooklyn's injury bug can't seem to go away. Kevin Durant won't play until next season. Kyrie Irving has missed 15 consecutive games with no exact timetable for a return.
And now, David Nwaba's season is over, adding to the bad luck the Brooklyn Nets have had this season.
