Conflicting Reports on NFL Pulling Draft Out of Vegas and Postponing it Until May
By Michael Luciano
Almost the entire sports world is on ice right now given the coronavirus pandemic rattling the nation, but the NFL is trying its best to keep things moving along given how they are not in season.
Having said that, their big offseason event, the NFL Draft, is in danger of starting much later than usual, as Pro Football Weekly reports that the league has moved the draft out of Las Vegas and has postponed the draft until after the CBA vote in late May.
The league had planned for a grand event with all the usual bombast of Vegas, but the ongoing public health crisis has nixed that idea.
The idea that the league has pushed the start time back by around a year, however, is still up for debate, as a Las Vegas reporter claims that several NFL sources, one of whom is NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy, claimed that the earlier reports of a May draft are totally false.
The draft could theoretically still "happen" without the large-scale outdoor pageantry, but the NFL could still conceivably try to push it back in order to keep the traditional "Roger Goodell announces the picks on stage" format. Both sides have positives and negatives, but it doesn't sound like the NFL has planted their flag anywhere just yet.
