The 2020 All-NFC East Team
By Brady Williams
The NFC East was a struggling division in 2019. A 9-7 team finished on top, and things started to feel like a race to the bottom. Despite the troubles, the division looks primed to improve in 2020. With some of the best players in the entire NFL in their ranks, the All-NFC East Pro Bowl Team is a lot better than the division's collective wins column would suggest.
QB: Dak Prescott
This is probably the hardest position to nail down. Wentz has some promising talent, but the injuries hurt him. It isn't a knock against Wentz, but the best players are always the ones who are available. Prescott has thrown for 1,587 more yards than Wentz and has eight more wins. Wentz has missed eight games in his career. The stats are remarkably similar, but you have to give it to the guy who's present and winning.
RB: Saquon Barkley, Ezekiel Elliott
Saquon Barkley is one of the most promising running backs in the league, and he's had back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons to start his career. He's the primary source of offense for the floundering New York Giants, and he's one of the best in the NFL.
Ezekiel Elliott has been a force to be reckoned with in his four-year career. He's been a 1,000-yard rusher every year, except in 2017 when he missed six games. Even then, he was only 17 yards away. Adrian Peterson gets a shoutout for being one of the best ever, but he's not a top rusher at the moment.
WR: Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup
The NFC East's wide receivers were mostly terrible in 2019. The leaders in receptions and passing yards were both Dallas Cowboys. With 79 receptions for 1,189 yards and 66 receptions for 1,107 yards, respectively, Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup are the de facto picks here until everyone else can start producing.
TE: Zach Ertz
Zach Ertz is one of the best tight ends in the entire league, so this is a no-brainer. He had 88 receptions for 916 yards and six touchdowns last year, and the competition isn't even close.
OT: Lane Johnson, Tyron Smith
The Eagles had one of the best lines in the league in the NFL, and the Cowboys have maintained excellence for years now. Lane Johnson secured his third consecutive Pro Bowl nod, while the veteran Tyron Smith got his seventh. These dudes rock.
OG: Brandon Brooks, Zack Martin
Philadelphia and Dallas continue to be elite on the offensive line. Pro Football Focus named Brandon Brooks as the best guard in the NFL, and frankly, they're right. Meanwhile, Zack Martin has never missed a Pro Bowl in his six NFL season, and 2019 was his fourth year earning a First-Team All-Pro designation. Who are we to stop showering praise on these guys?
C: Jason Kelce
Jason Kelce has been named First-Team All-Pro each of his last three seasons, and he just got his third Pro Bowl nomination in 2019. He's the best center in the league, and that's that.
DT: Fletcher Cox, Dalvin Tomlinson
WIth 40 tackles and 3.5 sacks, Fletcher Cox is an elite defensive tackle for Philadelphia, but Dalvin Tomlinson had a sneaky good year without much recognition. He also had 3.5 sacks and managed to record 49 tackles.
DE: Demarcus Lawrence, Brandon Graham
Brandon Graham recorded 8.5 sacks and 50 total tackles for the Eagles last season. He's been a force in the NFL for 10 years now and still hasn't made a Pro Bowl! He gets the nod here, though. While Demarcus Lawrence didn't make the actual Pro Bowl in 2019 either, he's still one of the best in the NFL. We can't leave him off because of one down campaign last season.
LB: Jaylon Smith, Cole Holcomb
Cowboys stud Jaylon Smith was named to the Pro Bowl because he had 142 tackles. He'll be on our list for that same reason. Redskins rookie Cole Holcomb had 105 tackles and three forced fumbles, which is impressive enough to be tops among the linebackers in the NFC East.
CB: Chidobe Awuzie, Darius Slay
Byron Jones is now with the Dolphins, so Awuzie needs to ride the momentum from the start of his career and step up in 2020. The 24-year-old had 79 tackles and 14 passes defensed (both career highs) last year and he'll take on more responsibility this year. On the other side, we have the best cornerback in the NFC East. Slay came over in a trade with the Lions and will now help lead an Eagles secondary back to the playoffs. The All-Pro is excited for a fresh start in Philly.
S: Xavier Woods, Landon Collins
Woods was a big reason for the Cowboys' success on defense last year. He's excellent in coverage and recorded two interceptions with 77 tackles. Landon Collins is more of a bruiser as the Redskins strong safety, and in 2019, he had 117 tackles and a sack. They'd make a great one-two punch on this Pro Bowl team.
K: Jake Elliott
Greg Zuerlein could take this away from Elliott next season, but the Eagles kicker gets the nod for 2020. He was 22-of-26 on field goals and 35-of-37 on extra points in 2019. He's been one of the most reliable legs in the NFL.
P: Tress Way
Tress Way was named to the Pro Bowl, and his 79 punts sure show he was putting in the effort to earn that. He had the league's longest punt last season at 79 yards, and he's a vital part of the Redskins given their lackluster offense.
Returner: Steven Sims
Steven Sims is just behind Cordarelle Patterson for the most return yards in 2019. He has 819 to Patterson's 825. He's one of the best in the league, and he tops the NFC East after a tremendous rookie season in Washington.
