This 2021 Packers-Saints Aaron Rodgers Trade Would Give New Orleans Immediate Life After Drew Brees
There's going to be some serious movement with quarterbacks in the coming years. If you thought Tom Brady to Tampa Bay was a shocker, wait until next offseason. Why? Because Drew Brees could be set to retire after the 2020 campaign and New Orleans will need to find his replacement.
Don't get us started on Taysom Hill or Jameis Winston. Neither are the answer. Well, what about a future Hall-of-Fame signal caller in Wisconsin who could be on the way out?
When the Packers decided to take Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the trade rumors immediately started flying surrounding Aaron Rodgers. We can only imagine he's not happy about the pick, especially after it was widely expected they'd go out and draft a receiver to help him out. Instead, they didn't take a single wideout during the seven rounds. Not only that, but Rodgers' contract starts to become onerous in terms of cap hits after the 2020 season, and many pundits are forecasting that Love will be taking over by at least 2022, with some floating the possibility of 2021.
If the Saints are serious about bringing AR12 to NOLA, it won't come cheap. That's why we believe New Orleans sending 2021 first- and third-rounders would be more than enough to get this deal done. Brees will retire, Love would become Green Bay's starter after one year of learning the offense, and Rodgers would take over the reins for the Saints. Everyone wins.
The drama between Green Bay and Rodgers is only going to continue throughout this upcoming season. With Love waiting in the wings, it could only be a matter of time before the Packers decide they want to look toward the future.
When that becomes the case, New Orleans better be ready to make a quick call and bring Rodgers to town if Brees does indeed opt to hang up his cleats after the 2020 season.
