3 49ers Veterans Who Could Be Cut After the NFL Draft
By Scott Rogust
The San Francisco 49ers' offseason has been a busy one, no doubt about that. Among the many moves, the team traded DeForest Buckner to the Indianapolis Colts for the 13th overall pick in the NFL Draft, which gives them two first-round selections and seven overall. That will allow them to bring in playmakers on the cheap, but as is the case every year, they will have to make room for them.
Here are three veteran players the 49ers could cut soon after the draft.
3. S Jaquiski Tartt
Jaquiski Tartt is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and has proven to be a serviceable safety in the league. However, considering the 49ers still have to pay tight end George Kittle, the money might be hard to come by. The good thing is that the 49ers could select his replacement in the NFL Draft. How would fans feel about letting him go?
2. WR Travis Benjamin
Yes, the 49ers just signed Travis Benjamin, but his contract details prove he's not really in the team's plans of the future. The former Los Angeles Charger signed a one-year, $1.05 million deal with the 49ers, and more importantly, accounts for no dead money. Benjamin's career has been plagued by injuries, and he's proven to be no more than a No. 3 wideout for a team. Just last year, Benjamin recorded six receptions for 30 yards, before going on season-ending injured reserve with a quad ailment. Benjamin could be nothing more than a training camp body.
1. WR Marquise Goodwin
The writing appears to be on the wall for Marquise Goodwin. The speedster showed promise during his time with the 49ers, but has had difficulty staying on the field for a full season. San Francisco is in prime position to select either Jerry Jeudy, CeeDee Lamb, or Henry Ruggs III with the 13th overall pick. The 49ers wideout depth chart is already topped off with Deebo Samuel, and Kendrick Bourne, and adding a top prospect will spell the end for Goodwin's time with the 49ers.
