3 Best Cowboys That Were Also Texas Longhorns
By Michael Luciano
Given how football is practically a religion in Texas, and the Longhorns continue to pump out Pro Bowl player after Pro Bowl player, you would think that the Dallas Cowboys would be littered with former Longhorns. Surprisingly, very few Longhorns managed to continue their prolific college careers with the Cowboys. These three players stand out as the best Longhorns that also wore the star on the side of their helmet.
3. OT Don Talbert
While his younger brother Diron rose to fame as a dominant defensive tackle for the Washington Redskins, Don played 37 games over three seasons with the Cowboys, ultimately culminating with a ring in Super Bowl VI. While Don's best days came as an Atlanta Falcon, he was a part of that legendary team that finally brought Tom Landry a championship.
2. WR Roy Williams
Sorry for bringing up all those repressed memories, Cowboys fans. Williams was a stud for his first five seasons in Detroit, making a Pro Bowl while piling up 1,310 yards in 2006. The Cowboys traded three draft picks, one of which become Lions tight end Brandon Pettigrew, for Williams, who struggled mightily in his home state. He managed just 1,324 yards and 13 touchdowns in 40 games before being Wally Pipp'd by Miles Austin and losing playing time. Even with his lackluster Dallas tenure, his Detroit dominance puts him at No. 2.
1. OG Leonard Davis
At 6-6 and 355 pounds of raw muscle, Davis was as intimidating a sight as there was in the league for a short time. After six years in Arizona, the former No. 2 overall pick signed for his hometown Cowboys, where he moved to guard and kept Tony Romo upright for four seasons. A freakishly strong, old-school road grader with three Pro Bowl nods in four years in Dallas, Davis is without question the best Longhorn to also play for the Cowboys.
