3 Biggest Flaws in Ja Morant's Game

The Memphis Grizzlies secured their point guard of the future in selecting Ja Morant with the second overall pick in the NBA Draft. Days prior, the team traded veteran point guard Mike Conley to the Utah Jazz, and by process of elimination, Morant to Memphis was a foregone conclusion.

Morant is the consensus top point guard in this draft class, but he does have some areas in need of improvement-- starting with these three

1. Turnovers

While Ja is an explosive playmaker and an assist machine, he does have the tendency to force plays and try some hero ball. As a result, he averaged 5.2 turnovers per game past season, more than double what he was guilty of the year before despite playing similar minutes. Morant will have to be smarter with the rock in his hands at the pro level.

2. Defensive Consistency

There are times where Morant is fully locked-in on defense. But there are other times when he doesn't show the desire to engage. That will be something Morant will have to change, especially on a rebuilding team like the Grizzlies that won't have many easy outs in the West.

3. Three-Point Struggles

Morant has had his issues from behind the arc while at Murray State. During his freshman year, he shot 30.7% from the three-point line. This past season, Morant improved that percentage to 36.3, which would merely be league average in the NBA. Working on his outside shot will be essential in getting the Grizz the floor spacing they need to compete.
