3 Bold Predictions for SEC Matchup Between Georgia and Auburn
By Michael Luciano
The College Football Playoff rankings could see some major movement after this week's must-watch SEC game, as D'Andre Swift and Georgia will travel to Alabama to face off against Derrick Brown and the ferocious Auburn defense. Both these teams like to slam the ball down your gullet while they let a swarming defense lead them to victory late. In a matchup of two SEC powerhouses that have the same recipe for success, something unexpected can easily swing the tide and give one side the advantage.
3. Auburn Runs For 200+ Yards
What happened to that once-dominant Georgia defensive line? The NFL pilfering two players from Georgia's line every year has left them a bit barren and susceptible to the run. Bo Nix has legitimate questions about his arm, but he's shown he can make plays with his legs. Boobee Whitlow and the run game, often in formation behind future NFL tackle Prince Tega Wanogho, proved in the Texas A&M and Mississippi State games that he alone can will an offense to victory. Kirby Smart's unit has it cut out for them in this one.
2. Jake Fromm Isn't Sacked Once
The members of Georgia's offensive line average around 320 pounds, and they have the technical skill to match their mammoth size. Led by future Top 10 pick Andrew Thomas at left tackle, Fromm is rarely asked to improvise out of the pocket or make plays under pressure. Auburn rushers Brown, Nick Coe, and Marlon Davidson are quite the nightmarish trio, but Thomas and the offensive line have more than enough depth and quality to win at the point of attack and keep Fromm's jersey spotless by the end of the game.
1. Rodrigo Blankenship Redeems Himself and Drills a Game-Winning Kick
Blankenship, long thought of as the most reliable kicker in college football, hooked a game-winner in their shocking home loss to South Carolina. Simply put, he isn't going to miss twice. In such an even game between two tough defenses, field goals are going to be at a premium. Expect a low-scoring, black-and-blue type of game that is decided when a lanky kicker nails a 50-yarder to end whatever chances Auburn had at a playoff appearance or SEC West title.
