3 Bold Predictions for the Browns in 2020 NFL Draft
By Michael Luciano
The Cleveland Browns and new head coach Kevin Stefanski need to work on surrounding quarterback Baker Mayfield with better offensive linemen, while at the same time managing to give defensive coordinator Joe Woods something to work with. The Browns have been a pretty reliable source of wackiness in the draft over the years, and first-year GM Andrew Berry could shake up the entire draft with one of these three bold moves.
3. Doubling up at Safety and Cornerback
The Browns had a bad secondary before they came into the 2020 offseason, and the loss of Damarious Randall leaves Denzel Ward as the one player on the back end opposing defenses will worry about. Days 2 and 3 of the draft will be a perfect opportunity for the Browns to draft a new starting safety and a No. 2 cornerback. Some players that could be a solid fit for the Browns in this part of the draft include Cal's Ashtyn Davis, Ohio State's Damon Arnette, and Clemson's AJ Terrell.
2. They Don't Draft a Linebacker
The Browns have been projected to take a linebacker by many in this pre-draft cycle, but that position might not be as dire of a need as many are making it out to be. Former Alabama star Mack Wilson was a high second-round talent who lasted until the fifth for reasons that have yet to be adequately explained, and he rewarded them with 14 starts and 82 tackles. Third-round pick Sione Takitaki remains a promising thumper in the middle as well.
1. They Trade Down and Still Land Mekhi Becton
If you ask five people how they would rank the top four offensive tackles (Becton, Jedrick Wills, Andrew Thomas, Tristan Wirfs), you would get five different answers. Becton might be the one who falls, unfortunately, as he failed a drug test. The Browns, who have been looking to trade down, could be the ones to benefit from this development, as they could land a gargantuan left tackle with the ability to pave a cavernous lane as a run blocker. Don't overthink this, Cleveland.
