3 Bold Predictions for Green Bay Packers vs Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football
By Karl Rasmussen
The undefeated Green Bay Packers host the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football. The Packers are looking to win their third straight game at home, while the Eagles hope to earn their second win of the season in a tough road battle.
The Packers have been led by their defense, which has stepped up in 2019, and looks to be one of the most dominant units in the league. The Eagles, on the other hand, will deploy a depleted secondary, as the team is plagued by injuries.
Still, this game should be tightly contested between the two playoff hopefuls, so here are three bold predictions for the Thursday night showdown.
3. Aaron Rodgers Torches Eagles Secondary
Aaron Rodgers will have his usual weapons at his disposal on Thursday, and with the Eagles secondary down to its backups, it's the perfect storm for an aerial barrage from Green Bay. Rodgers should have his sights set on Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Davante Adams all night, because they could be poised for big games. Rodgers should drop his first 300+ passing yard game of the season, while also recording a season high of three touchdown passes.
2. Miles Sanders' Fumbling Woes Continue
Miles Sanders fumbled twice in Week 3 for the Eagles, and against a dangerous Packers defense which leads the league with seven forced fumbles, we don't see that trend reversing itself. This could be a recipe for disaster for the rookie, and he'll need to do everything he can to keep the ball under his wing. Green Bay's defenders will be looking to punch the ball free all night, so Sanders could be in for a rough outing. We're going out on a limb here and saying Sanders will fumble twice.
1. Jaire Alexander Shuts Down Alshon Jeffery
The Packers have a special talent in cornerback Jaire Alexander, and he's quickly becoming one of the NFL's best defensive backs. Don't be surprised if he's tasked with shadowing Alshon Jeffery in Week 4, and if that's the case, expect to see limited production from the veteran wideout, who just barely escaped the injury report ahead of this one. Alexander has logged two passes defensed in each game this year, giving him a league-best six. Jeffery will have his hands full trying to get separation from Alexander, and we're predicting that Jeffery logs three or fewer receptions.
