3 Brewers Prospects Who Should be Untouchable in Trade Talks
By Michael Luciano
On the backs of another MVP caliber season from Christian Yelich and Josh Hader slamming the door shut on wins, Craig Counsell and the Milwaukee Brewers are once again in the hunt for an NL Central crown. There are still some problems with their rotation, however, and the Brewers could and should be looking for another arm to add to their team. If they want to jettison a couple top prospects, these three should stay in Milwaukee's farm system.
3. RHP Trey Supak
While the Triple-A San Antonio Missions play at a launching pad that can make evaluating pitchers tricky, the Double-A Biloxi Shuckers do not have that dubious distinction. A 6-5 240 pound right hander with a 95 MPH heater, Supak has dominated the Double-A level this year, going 9-4 with a 2.29 ERA in 18 starts. With Zack Brown getting knocked around at Triple-A, Supak has been the best performer in the Brewers' farm system to this point.
2. OF Tristen Lutz
The former No. 34 overall pick in the 2017 MLB draft, Lutz has spent this season with the Class-A Advanced Carolina Mudcats, exhibiting all the raw power that made him such an enticing prospect. With 32 extra base hits and 44 RBIs in 85 games, Lutz's easy stroke and gap power is too intriguing of a commodity for the Brewers to give up for a two-month rental of a reliever.
1. 2B Keston Hiura
Hiura hit .442 his final year of college and hit .317 in three years of minor league baseball. Despite the positional logjam, Hiura was too productive for the Brewers to keep in the minor leagues. He's rewarded their faith in him by hitting .283 with eight home runs in 30 games. A smooth, refined hitter with tremendous bat control, Hiura is a building block of the future in Milwaukee. If he is moved for anything less than a superstar, that is a fireable offense.
