3 Candidates to Replace Lynn Swann as USC Athletic Director
By Michael Luciano
Former Pittsburgh Steelers legend and Hall of Fame wide receiver Lynn Swann has resigned as athletic director at USC, his alma mater, after three years in charge of the Trojans program. There's currently a massive hole within upper management in LA, and these three potential candidates look like the best guys for the job as far as replacing him.
3. Pat Haden
Haden, like Swann, used his USC stardom to land himself a gig as the AD. A former Trojan quarterback, Haden resigned in 2016, giving Swann the AD job. Haden's tenure was far from perfect, but they were generally thought of as a fine program. Make no mistake, Haden is probably getting a call right now from the higher-ups at USC to come back and fill Swann's role.
2. Urban Meyer
Hey, why not? Meyer is currently designated as the assistant athletic director at Ohio State, and he's known to keep a watchful eye out for better jobs that crop up. While Meyer had to dodge rumors that he would bolt to USC throughout his coaching career, he might finally follow through on it and join up with the Trojans as an administrator.
1. Dave Roberts
Roberts was named interim AD after Swann left. Roberts joined USC in 2010 as the vice president of compliance, and has even been lauded for his performance in that role when he received the Frank Kara Leadership Award in 2017. He may not be a big name or former football star, but he could be just what this university needs.
