3 Coaching Replacements for John Beilein in Cleveland

The Cleveland Cavaliers appeared to be taking a patient approach with head coach John Beilein, as they gave a 66-year-old who never coached in the NBA a five-year deal. This season has been nothing short of a complete train wreck for the former Michigan coach, as his Cavs have the second-worst record in the NBA. The Cavs are at the end of their rope with him, and could look to part ways after this season. If/when he gets canned, these three would be perfect replacements.

3. Becky Hammon

Why not? The Cavs clearly have shown that they have been willing to go outside the box when hiring coaches after the Beilein hire, so why not make Hammon the first female head coach of an NBA team? Hammon has been an assistant under Gregg Popovich with the San Antonio Spurs since 2014, giving her more than enough experience on an NBA bench. It would be a splash hire, but Hammon has taken all the steps she needs to become a head coach.

2. Chad Forcier

Forcier, currently an assistant on Mike Budenholzer's dominant Milwaukee Bucks team, has been an assistant coach in this league since 2001, and he boasts experience on six different NBA sidelines. Like Hammon, Forcier is a Popovich disciple, as he spent 2007-2016 with Pop on the bench in San Antonio. The Memphis Grizzlies are loving former Budenholzer assistant Taylor Jenkins as their head coach, and Cleveland should look to poach Forcier from Milwaukee, as he has more than put in the time.

1. Dave Joerger

Joerger made the playoffs in all three of his seasons as Grizzlies head coach, but was fired for reasons that still remain unclear. He won 39 games last season, an improvement from 27 the year before, and earned the No. 9 seed in the West, but he was fired as Sacramento Kings head coach. If the Cavs are patient, Joerger would be a perfect hire, as his vocal style of coaching could help whip a young team into shape. Joerger has proven he can win without superstars, which makes him perfect for Cleveland's roster right now.
