3 Destinations for Jesse Puljujarvi After He Reportedly Requested Trade From Oilers
By Charles Nason
Edmonton Oilers' young star Jesse Puljujarvi has officially requested a trade. Puljujarvi was one of the most sought-after prospects of the 2016 NHL Draft, and luckily for the Oilers dropped to the No. 4 pick. After his 2018-2019 campaign was cut short to undergo double hip surgery, Puljujarvi wants out of Edmonton, looking for a "fresh start". With plenty of teams in need of help at the right wing position, these three teams could be the favorites to land the 21 year-old Finnish stud.
3. Montreal Canadiens
The Canadiens are one of many teams in search of options at the right wing position. With Brendan Gallagher emerging as a top scorer for the team, they need someone who can fulfill the role of a second or third line winger. With a slew of young talent at their disposal, Montreal could strike a deal to land Puljujarvi and reunite him with fellow countryman Jesperi Kotkaniemi.
2. Arizona Coyotes
The Arizona Coyotes have plenty of options at right wing, but none are exactly what the team needs. They've shown that they value a winger with size and strength who can add a scoring touch in the lineup, such as left-winger Lawson Crouse. At 6-4 and 201 pounds, Puljujarvi could be a perfect fit. If Edmonton were to take some of the Coyotes' young forwards in return for Puljujarvi, the deal could be a home run for both teams.
1. New York Rangers
The Rangers have proven that they aren't afraid to make a big splash this offseason. After trading for defenseman Jacob Trouba, they still need to handle some offensive needs. With just two solid right-wingers, the Rangers could seriously benefit from adding Puljujarvi, especially from his size. By dealing some of their young assets, New York could easily add the powerful Fin. They are far from content with their offseason additions, and Puljujarvi could very well be their next big pickup.
