3 Destinations for Texans DB Johnathan Joseph as He Hits Free Agency
The Houston Texans and Johnathan Joseph are parting ways after nine seasons. The 35-year-old is now on the open market and should be a hot commodity due to his experience and the fact he is still playing at a decent level. A few teams can look to sign Joseph to a one or two-year deal to help bring stability to the secondary. These three are among the best fits for the veteran DB.
3. New York Giants
The New York Giants have a young secondary. The oldest members of the group under contract are only 24 years old. Deandre Baker is only 22 and is getting paid the most, but is still only earning $2.4 million in 2020. The team has a ton of cap space and could sign Joseph and still take a top corner in this year's draft. The veteran could serve as a mentor for the entire group and be a captain to help bring stability under the first year of Joe Judge's leadership.
2. Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns have two young corners in Denzel Ward and Greedy Williams. The early signs have not been great and both have struggled to stay healthy. The team may also cut Terrance Mitchell, who is the current veteran of the group. Adding Joseph would give the two young guys someone to learn from after so many years of the Browns trotting out inexperienced players with coaches who didn't do much to help.
1. Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys need some help in the secondary now that Byron Jones is gone and demanding a record deal. The team only has five corners under contract. Joseph has spent the last decade in Texas and could make the move to the Cowboys. The alternative is rolling with Jourdan Lewis and Chidobe Awuzie as the top two corners. Adding a veteran like Joseph into the mix would only help.
