3 Dodgers Prospects Who Should Be Called up by September
By Ryan Flores
The Los Angeles Dodgers have been phenomenal this year, posting a MLB-best 60-32 record in the first half. They're an incredibly deep team on all fronts, but could use some reinforcements from their minor league pipeline to help shore things up even more ahead of a run at a possible third straight NL pennant. With that in mind, here are three prospects the Dodgers should call up by September.
3. Gavin Lux
Gavin Lux has been a steady riser this year, and has forced his way to Triple-A at just 21 years old with his impressive play at the plate. At Double-A, Lux compiled a .313 batting average with 13 homers and 37 runs batted in. That was enough to get him to the next rung on the ladder, where he's collected 15 hits in 30 at-bats with four runs batted in. If he continues to hit this way, he could find his way to the majors this year and audition to be with the major league team full-time in the near future.
2. Marshall Kasowski
Marshall Kasowski is still in Double-A as of right now, but could quickly rise through the ranks to make his way to the Dodger bullpen soon. He's got a wicked fastball that touches 97 mph, allowing him to generate an enormous amount of swings and misses. His 41 strikeouts in 24.1 innings of work in 2019 is impressive, and he's clearly ready for a promotion to Triple-A. If the Dodgers decide not to sell their top prospects for a big time bullpen arm, then it's entirely possible that Kasowski could find himself in the majors by September when rosters expand.
1. Will Smith
Will Smith has done incredibly well at Triple-A Oklahoma City, posting a .291/.397/.604 line with 14 homers and 40 runs batted in. In his short stint with the big league club this year, he was very productive, hitting .269 with 3 homers and 6 runs batted in across 26 at-bats. The Dodgers have had very little offensive production from Austin Barnes and Russell Martin this year, so Smith could find himself making some serious noise with the team sooner rather than later.
