3 Dream 49ers Roster Tweaks With Rival NFC West Players That Would Make San Fran Unbeatable
By Thomas Carannante
We always think what could have happened if the NFL Draft or free agency went differently, but what if there was an alternate universe where you could build your team's perfect roster with rival players in your division?
In the case of the San Francisco 49ers, a team that's already fairly complete, upgrading them at a few positions with NFC West players is a fun experiment to get fans imagining outlandish scenarios while getting unnecessarily angry at this mere proposal.
So let's mix and match players from the Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks to make a dominant 49ers squad. Here are three fellow NFC West players that would significantly upgrade the 49ers at these positions (not considering the salary cap, of course). Even one of these dream scenarios would make the 49ers likely Super Bowl favorites.
3. Aaron Donald
As if the 49ers even needed an upgrade to their defense, just imagine what Aaron Donald would do surrounded by even more talent? Put him on the side surrounded by Arik Armstead and Nick Bosa, and this would quite possibly be the most terrifying defensive line in the NFL. We'd MUCH rather he was on our side. Living in this world ain't so bad.
2. DeAndre Hopkins
The one position the 49ers seem to be lacking depth at is wide receiver. Emmanuel Sanders was their No. 1 target and he was acquired at the trade deadline. That's not taking away from Sanders' abilities, but it's clear the 49ers need a true go-to guy to pair with Deebo Samuel. New Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins is a much-needed star the 49ers need, and to be honest, we're surprised they weren't one of the teams on the phone with the Texans when Bill O'Brien was shopping him.
1. Russell Wilson
He's probably the most hated current player among 49ers fans, but nobody would be upset if Russell Wilson was running the show in San Fran. Kyle Shanahan's offense and Wilson is a dream pairing. The Seahawks QB has the championship experience to lead this stacked 49ers team to their first Super Bowl since 1995. His accuracy, mobility and ability to adapt on the fly are exactly what the 49ers offense needs to take the next step. They already have a powerful attack with Jimmy Garoppolo at the helm. Wilson would make this downright unfair.
