3 Free Agents the Packers Should Still Pursue
By Michael Luciano
Green Bay has done a solid job giving Aaron Rodgers some help and patching up a porous defense this offseason. From splurging in free agency on Za'Darius Smith and Preston Smith while drafting some potential studs like edge rusher Rashan Gary, safety Darnell Savage, and tight end Jace Sternberger, the Packers are ready to get back to the postseason. To aid in that push for Matt LaFleur's squad, these three veteran free agents could help Green Bay once again play meaningful January football.
3. LB Manti Te'o
Manti Te'o has been plagued by injuries over the course of his career, missing significant chunks of three separate seasons between San Diego and New Orleans. While he'll never win a 100-meter sprint, Te'o brings toughness, physicality, and a high football IQ to a linebacking unit in need of all three of those things-- provided he can avoid another bite from the injury bug.
2. CB Morris Claiborne
Morris Claiborne was burnt toast last year for the Jets, as he wasn't playing in a scheme that fit his strengths. He is a physical man-to-man corner that didn't have the range to play in zone coverage, but in a Mike Pettine defense that values press-man corners, Claiborne will fit right into a unit who needs a veteran presence.
1. WR Michael Crabtree
At 31 years old, Michael Crabtree still has some gas in the tank even after his talents were largely wasted last year in a Baltimore offense that loved to run the ball. Rodgers has speed in his receiving corps thanks to Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, but he's missing that Jordy Nelson/Donald Driver possession receiver. Crabtree fits the bill.
