3 Frontrunners Reportedly Emerge in Trey Mancini Trade Market
By Adam Weinrib
Every bad team needs one effective bat to carry them through the tough years of a rebuild.
Unfortunately for the Orioles, they might lose their stalwart in Trey Mancini sooner rather than later.
Per reports, Mancini is available on the trade market, and his most likely suitors are the Houston Astros, Texas Rangers, and Tampa Bay Rays, lurking from within the division.
Houston, rightfully, seems to be prioritizing pitching moving forward; after all, what can Mancini do that top prospect Kyle Tucker can't in a year's time?
The O's do hold a very effective card here, though, and if the Rangers are sick of high-variance options like Nomar Mazara, Mancini's steady bat could be very appealing as they attempt to build a controllable offensive juggernaut in the long term.
Mancini's having what would have been an All-Star season, if not for John Means; the 27-year-old is hitting .280 with 24 homers and 53 RBI. Will he be part of the opening of the new Globe Life Field in 2020? Perhaps he'll help distance the Rays further from the O's as their postseason chase gets reanimated?
Ideally, for the good people of Baltimore, he ends up a bit farther away in the AL West.
