Even though the Chicago Cubs have been sleepwalking all year, they still had a chance to make the playoffs, where anything can happen if you just get in. Well, they were swept at home in a four-game set against the St. Louis Cardinals last week, which took them out of the division chase and has made them a long shot to nab a Wild Card spot.

This is unacceptable when you look at the roster, so here are three heads that must roll in Chicago after this embarrassing sweep at the hands of their division rival.

3. Kris Bryant

When you look at his numbers, Kris Bryant is still one of the better third basemen in the game. But where is the guy who won the MVP back in 2016? He's dealt with some injuries, but even when he's healthy and in the lineup every day, Bryant doesn't seem to be the aircraft carrier we envisioned. It's unlikely the Cubs are going to pony up when he becomes a free agent, so now is the time to cut your losses and trade him, which will bring back an impressive haul. Anthony Rizzo is the leader of this team, not Bryant.

2. Jed Hoyer

Jed Hoyer may be one of Theo Epstein's "guys," but since the president of baseball operations isn't going to fire himself, his right hand man should be shown the exit door. For whatever reason, the Cubs aren't bringing in the right talent, and plenty of the blame needs to be placed on Hoyer, even though Theo is the one who signs off on deals. That front office needs a shake up, so start with a new general manager and move on from there.

1. Joe Maddon

This one is obvious. Whether he should be retained or not, with the way the season is seemingly going to end, there's no way manager Joe Maddon is brought back. There's been a malaise over this team since they won the World Series and it's time to get some new blood in there.
