3 Hometown Kids We'd Love to See Play for Braves One Day
By Jerry Trotta
Cincinnati Reds right-hander Trevor Bauer revealed this week that he would fancy a move to the Los Angeles Dodgers at some point before his MLB career concludes. The 2018 All-Star was born in North Hollywood and played college ball at UCLA, so it really makes complete sense why he's longing for a homecoming.
That got us thinking: what other players around the league would we love to see play for their respective home cities/states? Let's highlight some Atlanta natives that would look awesome in a Braves uniform.
3. Byron Buxton
Byron Buxton has established himself as one of the most complete centerfielders in the MLB. Luckily for him, the Braves don't really have a long-term play at the position. Current starter Ender Inciarte turns 30 in October, and Ronald Acuña Jr. is really better served playing one of the two corner OF positions. That could open the door for Atlanta to make a move for Buxton, who was born in Baxley, GA, in due time.
2. Austin Meadows
We fully understand that Austin Meadows' breakout campaign last year secured his future with the Tampa Bay Rays. For the year, the 2019 All-Star outfielder hit .291/.364/.558 with 33 home runs and 89 RBI. Meadows was born in Atlanta, so his fit with the Braves really couldn't be any more perfect. At 25 years old, there's still plenty of time for the Grayson High School product to return to his hometown -- perhaps after his next contract with the Rays. After all, when do they pay anyone?
1. Clint Frazier
Clint Frazier is an absolute stud. Anybody with two functioning eyes can determine that. What isn't entirely clear, however, is his future he holds with the New York Yankees, who currently have fellow stars in the prime of their careers like Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Hicks in the outfield. Had the 2020 campaign started on time, Frazier likely would've begun the year at Triple-A, which is almost criminal given his potential. A move to the Braves in the near future could be monumentally beneficial to the Decatur, GA native's big league career.
