3 Horrific Missed Calls by Refs That Cost the Patriots a Win Against the Chiefs
By Mark Powell
Sure, most of America is used to this article revealing the exact opposite scenario, but for once, the New England Patriots were screwed over by the officials in their game agains the Kansas City Chiefs. Credit to Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and Co. for keeping their composure in the big moments, but the officiating was atrocious, especially in the second half.
Allow us to demonstrate.
3. Travis Kelce Fumble Blown Dead
Travis Kelce very clearly fumbled here, and the call was overturned thanks to a Bill Belichick challenge. However, that was also Belichick's final challenge, which would screw them later on. Also, Stephon Gilmore picked up the fumble, and would've scored a walk-in scoop-and-score had the officials not blown the play dead. This was all kinds of messed up.
2. N'Keal Harry TD Called Out of Bounds
On the very next possession, Brady and the Patriots drove down the field. A TB12 pass to the rookie Harry should've been called a touchdown, as the Arizona State product just barely stayed in-bounds. While replay showed Harry clearly scored, Belichick couldn't challenge due to having to waste his final red flag on the fumble that would eventually be overturned.
1. Obvious Pass Interference on Final Drive
Phillip Dorsett was very obviously interfered with on a third down in Chiefs territory on the Patriots' final drive. While Tom Brady would eventually pick up the first down on a clutch fourth down run, it wasted time and resources, and the Patriots would eventually come up short, thus ending the game and taking an unnecessary loss. A 1st and Goal from the five-yard line after this foul certainly would have changed everything.
