3 Kobe Bryant Lakers Records That Will Never Be Broken
By Scott Rogust
Kobe Bryant, one of the all-time great players in NBA history, has passed away under tragic circumstances. On Sunday, Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and seven others were on their way to a travel basketball game. Their helicopter crashed in Calabasas, and there were no survivors.
You didn't have to be the biggest basketball fan to know who Bryant was. He was a fierce competitor who embraced the championship mentality and was idolized by millions.
Aside from the NBA Championships, Bryant has numerous records to his credit. Here are three that will never be broken.
3. Minutes Played
Bryant has spent 20 years with the Lakers organization, which obviously translates to plenty of playing time. To be specific, the Mamba played for a grand total of 48,637 minutes. The next closest to the record is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who played for 37,492 minutes. Given that Bryant has a 10,000 point lead over Kareem, who played for 14 years in Purple & Gold, nobody's touching this Lakers record.
2. 3-Point Field Goal Attempts
When watching Bryant throughout his career, it was clear he had the propensity to make big shot after big shot, from any distance. Whether it was the regular season or playoffs, whenever it was crunch time, the Lakers had to give the ball to Kobe if they wanted to win. Many of those shots came from 3-point land. In fact, Bryant attempted 5,546 3-pointers. The closest man behind him is Derek Fisher, with a rather "measly" 2,255 attempts. We don't care who you are, present or future. No one's shooting as many treys as Kobe did.
1. Points Scored
Throughout his lengthy career in Los Angeles, Bryant was a certified scoring threat whenever he was on the court. As evidenced by his 3-point field goal attempts, Kobe was bound to have a boatload of points. To be specific, Bryant tallied a total of 33,643 points. Not even "Mr. Clutch" Jerry West has more points in a Laker uniform than "the Mamba." Let's be real: No one will even sniff this record.
