3 Late-Round QBs Bears Should Draft to Continue the Competition Behind Nick Foles and Mitchell Trubisky
By Michael Luciano
The continued presence of Mitch Trubisky on the depth chart and the trade for former Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles doesn't mean that the Chicago Bears have their quarterback situation totally figured out.
Day 3 could be the perfect place for the Bears to take another passer to add some more talent to their quarterback room. These three gunslingers are perfect Day 3 steals for the Bears.
3. Cole McDonald, Hawaii
McDonald has the gaudy production, due largely to Hawaii's Air Raid offense, and the athleticism to become a potential starter in this league, but some really poor mechanics and decision-making will likely limit him to the Day 3 range. With the first two spots on the depth chart likely set in stone, Chicago should take a gamble on someone with the arm talent and athleticism to make some plays in Nagy's offense.
2. James Morgan, FIU
Morgan has been one of the hottest risers in the pre-draft process after he was dominant at the East-West Shrine Bowl. Morgan's natural arm strength and accuracy deep downfield are both plus traits, and he is one of the best Day 3 quarterbacks in this class at avoiding turnovers. The Bears will need to use one of their better Day 3 picks on Morgan given how quickly he's been rising in this process (and how he's reportedly piqued the Patriots' interest).
1. Jalen Hurts, Oklahoma
Hurts could slide to Day 3 of the draft despite his productive college career and playmaking ability, as he is less refined as a passer than his stats would indicate. Hurts' meal ticket will be his ability to play out of structure and make plays on the run, both of which are almost pre-requisites to play quarterback in Matt Nagy's offense. Hurts could be active on gameday despite his QB3 tag due to his ability to use his legs to break off big plays.
