3 Mets Not Named Tim Tebow Who Could Make Opening Day Roster After Michael Conforto Injury

The New York Mets were dealt with some particularly rough injury news after stud corner outfielder Michael Conforto was forced to undergo an MRI to determine the severity of his side injury. Conforto's injury opens up a spot on the roster, which could be filled by one of these three Spring Training standouts, who might have found it difficult to escape an assignment to Syracuse previously. Sorry folks, Tim Tebow will not be making the bigs this year.

3. RHP Erasmo Ramirez

Ramirez was once one of the best starter/reliever hybrids in baseball, but injuries have limited the veteran to just 11 ineffective appearances over the last two seasons. The Nicaraguan pitcher could provide more depth, experience, and insurance for a Mets bullpen that is still trying to solidify itself. The Conforto injury gives Ramirez, who has given up just one run in eight innings of work this spring, some extra leverage when it comes to sneaking onto the MLB roster.

2. OF Ryan Cordell

Cordell is trying to make the Mets as a backup outfielder after he was jettisoned by the Chicago White Sox in the offseason. Cordell hit .221 with seven home runs last season, and while he hasn't dominated in spring thus far, the injury to Conforto could cause the Mets to keep him in Flushing to start the year.

1. INF Eduardo Nunez

Nunez signed a minor league deal with the Mets after his last two seasons with the Boston Red Sox ended with extremely subpar performances from the veteran infielder. Nunez, 33, has been raking in the spring to the tune of a .320 average, which could force Luis Rojas to keep him on the major league roster. The Mets will not be short on infield options this season, but his pedigree and performance could be enough for Nunez to take Conforto's spot on the active roster.
