3 Moves Bills Must Make to Return to Super Bowl Contention
By Michael Luciano
The Buffalo Bills, on the back of one of the league's most suffocating pass defenses and some highlight-reel plays from Josh Allen, made the playoffs this season, only for Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans to take them down in spectacular fashion. The Bills are still in prime position for the playoffs once again in a winnable AFC East, provided they identify these three needs and improve some of their major weak spots.
3. Load Up on Pass Rushers in the Draft
The Shaq Lawson experiment in Buffalo is likely going to come to an end after another up and down season, and Buffalo needs to add some speed on the outside if they want to improve on a pass rush that wasn't as good as they could have been. LSU's K'Lavon Chaisson, Boise State's Curtis Weaver, and Penn State's Yetur Gross-Matos, just to name a few, are the pass rushers who could be available when the Bills make their pick at No. 22, and could be instant contributors on a loaded defense.
2. Re-Sign Jordan Phillips
Another player that has the best season of his career in his first full season away from Adam Gase, the former Miami Dolphins defensive tackle recorded 9.5 sacks this season, forming one of the best interior defensive tackle duos in the league with standout rookie Ed Oliver. Phillips is slated to hit free agency, but he has quickly become a major part of what Sean McDermott and defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier want to instill in Buffalo.
1. Get Josh Allen a True No. 1 Receiver
Allen's receiving corps was leaps and bounds better than it was during his rookie season, but their top two receivers, John Brown and Cole Beasley, are second options masquerading as true game-changers. This draft is packed to the brim with receivers, and the free agent market will have the likes of AJ Green, Emmanuel Sanders, Amari Cooper, and Randall Cobb available. Allen remains an inconsistent passer, but that could be helped out with the addition of a true alpha out wide.
