3 NFL Coaches Who Deserve Another Year Despite Bad Seasons
By Jerry Trotta
Black Monday is nearly upon us, and last year's annual firing extravaganza saw a whopping six head coaches shown the door.
As we enter Week 17 of the NFL's regular season, embattled HCs will have one more game to prove they are deserving of another year at the helm. But here are some that should get another season to prove their worth.
3. Anthony Lynn
Lynn's inclusion on this list, first and foremost, comes down to Philip Rivers' atrocious quarterback play in 2019. Talk about hitting a veteran wall, right? You simply can't win football games with an immobile QB that throws about 10 passes up for grabs per game. Couple that with the rash of injuries to the Chargers' offensive line and secondary, and LA was simply destined for mediocrity this season. With that being said, 2020 should stand as Lynn's last year to convince the Chargers front office that he's the man for the job.
2. Adam Gase
Whether we agree with Gase's original appointment, unfortunately, holds no value in this discussion. Though still inept here and there, the Jets have performed well enough to earn Gase another year in East Rutherford, especially after they were without QB Sam Darnold for three games -- all in the beginning of the season. Asking a coach to endure success in his first year with a team that hasn't been to the playoffs since 2010 is impossible.
1. Zac Taylor
We aren't crazy about Taylor's potential as an NFL head coach, but come on, we'd like to see Bill Belichick win more than four games with the Bengals' dumpster fire of a roster. Cincinnati needs an offensive line and defensive overhaul. Not to mention, AJ Green sat out the entire season after ankle surgery. The Bengals aren't anything close to a one-year fix and that alone proves that Taylor deserves another season or two to show his promise.
