3 Packers Training Camp Battles We're Most Looking Forward to
By Max Scoli
After the Green Bay Packers finished their 2018 campaign tied for the least amount of wins in the NFC North with the Detroit Lions, it was a wake-up call that no roster spots are guaranteed anymore. Each player will have to earn the time they get on the field, and training camp is just the place to do that. Here is a list of several Packer training camp battles that you will not want to miss:
3. Danny Vitale vs. Dexter Williams
While this isn't a traditional training camp battle as Danny Vitale plays fullback and Dexter Williams plays running back, the Packers will likely have to choose between the two. However, there has been speculation regarding the increased role the running back position will play in Green Bay's offense next season, both on the ground and in the air, making it likely that Williams will come out on top.
2. J’Mon Moore vs. Marquez Valdes-Scantling
Both wide receivers played for the Packers in 2018, but one might get left behind when Week One rolls around. J'Mon Moore will likely be the odd man out as quarterback Aaron Rodgers has expressed his praise for Marquez Valdes-Scantling. And what Rodgers wants, Rodgers gets.
1. Marcedes Lewis vs. Robert Tonyan
The Packers have four tight-ends in Jimmy Graham, Jace Sternbeger, Robert Tonyan and Marcedes Lewis, and there is no way they can keep all four. Green Bay isn't going to cut Graham or Sternberger, so that leaves Lewis and Tonyan to fight for that last potential spot. However, reports have indicated that Tonyan could see an increase in playing time this season, which would mean Marcedes Lewis could be looking for a new job soon. The former NFL Pro-Bowler only started four games for the Packers last year, totaling 39 yards on 3 receptions.
