3 Players the Eagles Should Consider Trading This Offseason to Re-Tool and Make Another Super Bowl Run

The Philadelphia Phillies are tasked with quite an intriguing offseason. They have a lot of cap space to work with, but they need to also consider what to do with some underachieving players and complicated contract situations on the roster.

With free agency kicking off in a week, here are three players the Eagles should consider trading between now and then in order to free up cap space and make a run at other players who might help them get back to the Super Bowl.

3. Derek Barnett

Eagles fans, Derek Barnett just isn't that good. The former first-round pick has yet to live up to any expectation after three seasons, and while his $4 million salary for 2020 isn't bad at all, Philly is better off just shipping away that money and getting a late draft pick in return (or a depth player at a position of need). Barnett has just 67 tackles and 14 sacks in 35 games and the Eagles have plenty of D-line depth to cope with his departure.

2. Alshon Jeffery

Do you really want to go through another offseason talking about the rumors of the "anonymous player" badmouthing Carson Wentz? It was allegedly Alshon Jeffery, who has also been unable to stay healthy and/or produce for the Eagles aside from his stellar performance during their Super Bowl run. He's played in just 23 games the past two seasons. Perhaps a change of scenery can help the veteran, though it won't be easy for the Eagles to find a suitor for the (approximately) $32 million left on his deal. The good news is that he can be cut next year and save whatever team he's on over $8 million, so that's a silver lining for suitors in case they're worried about him underperforming.

1. Malcolm Jenkins

Pick up his club option and trade him to a team that will give him a contract extension. Malcolm Jenkins previously said he will not play under his current salary for 2020 and it's clear the Eagles don't care because the two sides have yet to reach an agreement on a restructure or a new deal. There are plenty of teams that would love to have Jenkins roaming the defensive backfield and all it will take is a mid-round draft pick and a contract extension.
