3 Players Lakers Should Try to Sign After Quiet NBA Trade Deadline
By Karl Rasmussen
The Los Angeles Lakers were expected to bolster the roster at the trade deadline, with Kyle Kuzma rumored to be heading towards an exit from the team.
Well, Rob Pelinka and Co. ended up standing pat, failing to make a trade after getting outbid by the Clippers in their pursuit of Marcus Morris.
Following the lackluster deadline, the Lakers should still be looking to improve, and with a number of players getting bought out of their current deals, they will have some options on the open market. Here are three players they should take a long look at.
3. Moe Harkless
As of writing, Moe Harkless is a member of the New York Knicks, but it's widely expected that the forward will be bought out by the team in the coming days. He didn't offer much during his stint with the Clippers, but he's a serviceable 3-and-D player who could be a positive impact on the Lakers down the stretch. While this is all contingent upon his buyout from New York, Harkless should be among the Lakers' targets.
2. Reggie Jackson
After trading Andre Drummond to Cleveland, the Pistons are looking at the start of a real rebuild. Reggie Jackson is said to be mulling a buyout from the team, and while that has yet to occur, the Lakers should be ready to strike if it does. Jackson could be a great addition to a Lakers team looking to push itself over the top, as he could provide some valuable 3-point shooting, and also another solid ball handler.
1. Darren Collison
Darren Collison took some time away from the league but it looks like he's ready to return. The Lakers and the veteran point guard reportedly have mutual interest, and he could be a great pickup now that the deadline has passed. Collison averaged 12.5 points and 5.0 assists across 10 NBA seasons, and made the playoffs in five different seasons. Much like in their pursuit of Morris, however, the Lakers will likely be battling with the Clippers to land Collison.
