3 Players Saints Should Add in Free Agency After Drew Brees Takes Discount Deal

The New Orleans Saints are in a precarious position right now. They have star players at nearly every position, with one of the most talented rosters in the NFL, and Drew Brees is taking a discount so they can grab a big fish on the market.

This next year is part of their small window to win a championship with all their best guys on cheap deals. They'll need to go for broke, and these players are who they should target with the additional cap space created by Brees' discounted deal.

3. Brandon Scherff - G

With Pro Bowler Andrus Peat set to leave the Saints, they'll need to fill his spot and Brandon Scherff could be a huge upgrade. While he'll be chasing a huge contract, the Saints should have the money to give him what he wants. Considering maintaining the strength of the offensive line is vital for New Orleans this offseason, bringing Scherff aboard to help protect Drew Brees would be a great move.

2. Yannick Ngakoue - DE

The problem that arose during the Saints playoff run was their lack of QB pressure, which was virtually nonexistent in the team's playoff clash with the Vikings. Ngakoue is a sack artist, having logged eight sacks for the Jacksonville Jaguars last season, his lowest mark since his rookie year. But eight sacks would rank second-best between the Saints' defenders in 2019.

Imagine if the Saints were able to pair a top-tier wideout opposite Michael Thomas? MT has been dominant ever since entering the league, though the Saints' next most reliable receiving threat after him has been Alvin Kamara. Cooper revived his career in Dallas where he's established himself as one of the game's best receivers, and a move to New Orleans would see him catching passes from one of the best of all time, while not being forced to go up against opposing team's top DBs.
