3 Players That Definitely Won't Be on the Mets' Roster Next Season
By Parker White
The New York Mets appear to be on the outside looking in on a playoff berth, which is a far cry from the expectations that new GM Brodie Van Wagenen set back in the winter. Changes need to be made, so here are three players that definitely won't be on the Mets' roster next season.
3. 3B Todd Frazier
Todd Frazier has leadership qualities that teams are looking for, but production matters and he's a middle-aged player entering free agency. With J.D. Davis having a career year, along with Jed Lowrie expected to be fully healthy in 2020, there's no room for Frazier to come back and start at the hot corner and the Mets can save some money.
2. OF Juan Lagares
Juan Lagares is a plus defender in center field, but over his seven seasons he's only played over 120 games three times, including this season. His offense has never developed and you combine that with his tendency to get hurt, there's no reason for the Mets to pick up his $9.5 million option.
1. RHP Zack Wheeler
Zack Wheeler has top-of-the-rotation stuff, but GM Brodie Van Wagenen tipped his hand regarding the right-hander's impending free agency when the Mets acquired Marcus Stroman, who is under control for 2020. Wheeler will be a sought-after commodity, and with the Mets not being big spenders in free agency, I doubt they'll overpay to keep him.
