3 Players That Definitely Won't Be on the Red Sox Roster Next Season
By Parker White
Was there a more disappointing team in 2019? The Boston Red Sox had a historic 2018 campaign that led to a World Series title. And yet, they've been mediocre all season and will miss the playoffs.
They've already fired GM Dave Dombrowski and you can bet more changes are on the horizon, including to the roster. Here are three players that definitely won't be on the Red Sox roster next season.
3. OF Jackie Bradley Jr.
It's a little surprising that he wasn't traded before now, but it's time for the Red Sox to get an upgrade in center field over Jackie Bradley Jr. Yes, he's a stud defensively, but the days of him being an all-defensive player are coming to an end and he has proven he can't swing the bat consistently.
2. RHP Rick Porcello
Starting pitching was a huge problem in 2019 for Boston, and even though he's a former Cy Young Award winner, Rick Porcello struggled this year and won't be retained, as he's entering free agency this winter. Porcello's inability to replicate his Cy Young campaign has hurt Boston, and they've seen enough to feel comfortable moving on.
1. DH J.D. Martinez
J.D. Martinez is one of the best hitters in baseball, and because he has an opt-out and this Red Sox team is in a bit of transition, they'll move on from him and not pay big money for essentially an everyday designated hitter. Whether it be Martinez or Mookie Betts, one of these stars aren't going to be in Beantown in 2020. Until further notice, Betts will remain because he's their best player, but there's even a chance both walk.
