3 Players That Definitely Won't Be on the White Sox Roster Next Season
By Parker White
The Chicago White Sox had another miserable 2019 campaign and will register a losing season for the seventh straight year. However, with the youth movement that's taking place, they could surprise people in 2020 if everything goes right.
To even have a chance, Chicago needs to shed some of their dead weight, so here are three players that definitely won't be on the White Sox roster next season.
3. OF Jon Jay
Jon Jay is a respected fourth outfielder and the hope for Chicago was that his friendship with Manny Machado would persuade him to sign with the White Sox. That didn't happen and it's been a bad 2019 for the 34-year-old, who has appeared in only 47 games because of a hip injury that required surgery. He's also an upcoming free agent, and unless his leadership skills are through the roof, the White Sox have plenty of younger options to work with in 2020.
2. C Welington Castillo
Welington Castillo has an $8 million club option for 2020 and there's no reason for the White Sox to pick it up. They signed him originally to be their starting backstop, but with the emergence of James McCann and top catching prospect Zack Collins already being big-league ready, Castillo's below average offense and defense should be leaving town quickly.
1. RHP Ivan Nova
The White Sox are in desperate need of starting pitching, and even though Ivan Nova is a veteran hurler, he's been terrible on the South Side and needs to be gone. He's a free agent after the season, so it should be easy to walk away from him and explore other options on the market.
