3 Players the Braves Should Explore Trading This Offseason
By Parker White
Whether they know it or not, the Atlanta Braves are in for a busy offseason as they look to fortify a roster loaded with young talent and expect to go deeper into October.
Yes, Atlanta will likely be busy on the free agent market, but we can expect GM Alex Anthopoulos to be active on the trade market. Here are three players he might consider trading this offseason if a favorable deal presents itself.
3. RHP Bryse Wilson
You could put several young pitchers on this list, whether it be Touki Toussaint or Kyle Wright, but the one who has shown the capability of starting at the highest level is Bryse Wilson. Now, that doesn't mean he was phenomenal at the highest level, as he posted a 7.20 ERA over 20 innings of work, but he had a nice year at Triple-A (3.42 ERA over 21 starts) and possesses a big fastball to go along with a nasty slider. Who knows if he'll end up in the bullpen or not, but you could understand a team taking a flyer on someone like Wilson, and if the Braves can get something they like/need in return, the righty could very well be on his way out.
2. INF Johan Camargo
After an underrated 2018 campaign, Johan Camargo was removed from his starting spot at third base and placed into a utility role. Well, that didn't work on any level. His defense was average at best, and offensively he slashed a mere .233/.279/.384 with seven home runs and 32 RBI. Maybe Camargo will be more successful the second time around in that role, but if the Braves re-sign Josh Donaldson to play the hot corner, it might be best if the team entertains the idea of moving Camargo. He's no Charlie Culberson off the bench, and if he can't adapt to a bench role and provide depth, Atlanta might as well move on.
1. OF Ender Inciarte
We know Ender Inciarte is a Gold Glove defender in center field, but over his four seasons with Atlanta, he's never been a league average hitter. Being a plus defender with no bat can only take you so far, and with the Braves' top two prospects (outfielders Cristian Pache and Drew Waters) already at Triple-A, Atlanta has to consider trading Inciarte and his team-friendly deal, which has three years of club control remaining.
