3 Players the Chiefs Are Guaranteed to Lose in Free Agency
By Brady Williams
The Kansas City Chiefs may have won the Super Bowl, but like every team in the National Football League, their roster is going to look a bit different in 2020. The team has to keep in mind future commitments to players like Patrick Mahomes, so some salary cap tinkering will be necessary, especially after Chris Jones was hit with the franchise tag.
Here are three free agents that won't be returning to Kansas City next season with all factors considered.
3. Chad Henne
Chad Henne is a 34-year-old veteran backup QB. The Chiefs also have 35-year-old Matt Moore hitting the open market. The difference between the two? Moore played this past season. Henne didn't see a single snap, even when Patrick Mahomes was injured for three weeks. The Chiefs will almost definitely let him go in favor of keeping Moore or pursuing another option.
2. Terrell Suggs
Another veteran of the league, Terrell Suggs had a very unique 2019. He started the season with the Arizona Cardinals, but he was released when they were officially out of the playoffs. The Chiefs scooped him up, T-Sizzle won a second Super Bowl, and all was well. However, Suggs is 37 years old at a brutally demanding position. He'll hit free agency, and if he doesn't retire, it's unlikely the Chiefs re-sign him given their other priorities on the defensive side of the ball.
1. Morris Claiborne
Former New York Jet and Dallas Cowboy Morris Claiborne made headlines when he signed with the Chiefs this past season. After eight games, though, he only recorded nine solo tackles. He was regularly beaten, and soon thereafter, he suffered a shoulder injury that ended his season. He missed every game of the playoffs despite practicing in full before the AFC Championship. With plenty of corners in the draft, Kansas City will probably move on.
