3 Players the Dodgers Should Target in Trades This Offseason
By Parker White
The Los Angeles Dodgers won 106 games during the regular season and appeared to be the class of the National League. However, they were ousted in the first round by the Washington Nationals and went home with a sour taste in their mouth.
A disappointing end to their season could lead to plenty of change, so here are three players the Dodgers should target in trades this offseason.
3. UTL Ian Desmond
The Dodgers already have guys like Kike Hernandez and Chris Taylor who can play all around the diamond, but a power bat like Ian Desmond, who can play the infield and outfield, could make this team even deeper. It would be a trade within in the division which always complicates things, but the Colorado Rockies are coming off a terrible season and they shouldn't be picky about what team they're dealing with if potential young assets are involved.
2. LHP Brad Hand
Whether it be just manager Dave Roberts or the entire organization, there appears to be a lack of trust in closer Kenley Jansen. He didn't have his normal dominant season in 2019, so they need some sort of secondary option late in the game if that ends up being the case in 2020. Enter Cleveland Indians closer Brad Hand. The 29-year-old didn't have his best season either, but he ended up with 34 saves and tallied 84 strikeouts over 57.1 innings. On top of that, there's a good chance the Indians begin tearing it down to get younger, making Hand -- who could enter free agency after the 2020 season -- available.
1. RHP Luis Castillo
Cincinnati Reds fans are probably incensed that Luis Castillo's name would be brought up, but to better the rest of their team, it might be smart to dangle him out on the market, especially if a team like the Dodgers come calling. LA will have a hole in their rotation if they let Hyun-Jin Ryu and Rich Hill walk in free agency, so targeting a young starter with ace potential would be the way to go, especially if they're willing to part with shortstop Corey Seager or top infield prospect Gavin Lux. If the Dodgers are able to sign an Anthony Rendon in free agency, Justin Turner has already come out and said he'd change positions, which would leave a crowded infield, so Lux or Seager become viable trade options if they can upgrade their rotation in a big way.
