3 Players the Packers Are Guaranteed to Lose in Free Agency
By Michael Luciano
The Green Bay Packers will try to keep the band together as best they can after coming one 49ers bludgeoning short of winning the NFC and making the Super Bowl, but the inevitability of free agency will make that difficult.
Green Bay is destined to lose a few players to free agency due to either other teams overpaying or the team's own disinterest in bringing them back. These three have probably played their last snap as a Packer for one of those reasons.
3. CB Tramon Williams
An ageless wonder that will turn 37 in a few weeks, Williams has 34 interceptions over a 13-year career. However, he started to show some cracks near the end of the season, and his performance took a major nosedive. With Jaire Alexander, Kevin King and Josh Jackson already in place at cornerback, Williams is not likely to return.
2. WR Geronimo Allison
Allison might have set new career highs in catches and yards, but he was one of the main reasons why the Packers' wide receiver room was a lightning rod for criticism. With Davante Adams and Allen Lazard likely coming back, and Equanimeous St. Brown returning from injury, Allison probably will not be retained in Green Bay. The fourth or fifth best wide receiver on a team that has already stated wants to add players at that position in either the draft or free agency, the former Illinois star is as good as gone.
1. LB Blake Martinez
Martinez is quite the curious evaluation. He has started every game for Green Bay over the last three years and has piled up 144 tackles minimum every season since 2017, but his lack of speed and coverage skills could allow the Packers to let him walk and add a quicker middle linebacker. This Packers team needs to save money for extensions on young stalwarts like Aaron Jones, and they might need to jettison players like Martinez to do so. If he hits the market, he will have more than his fair share of suitors.
