3 Players the Packers Will Cut This Preseason Due to Surplus of Depth
By Sean Facey
The Packers are inching ever closer to rounding out their 53-man roster. They've already got a general sense of who the starters will be at each position, but there's still some thinning to be done at multiple positions. These three players stand out as the likely casualties of any cuts that Green Bay makes by the end of the preseason.
3. J'Mon Moore, WR
The starters are more or less locked in for the Packers at wide receiver, and even the backup spots seem to be of little contest. Guys like Jake Kumerow and Darrius Shepherd have outplayed Moore during the preseason and could be edging him out for a roster spot. The 2018 fourth-round draft pick has done little to impress during preseason play and looks to be on the verge of being cut ahead of the regular season.
2. Chandon Sullivan, DB
The secondary is finally coming around in Green Bay after years of futility. Kevin King, Jaire Alexander and Tramon Williams in particular stand out as strong players at the cornerback position. Their stellar play leaves defensive back Chandon Sullivan on the outside looking in with the days of preseason waning. Barring a strong showing late in his next game, Sullivan's chances of making the 53-man roster look slim.
1. Evan Baylis, TE
Baylis was hoping to crack the 53-man roster but he doesn't seem likely to make the cut. The top two spots at the tight end position already belong to veteran stars Jimmy Graham and Mercedes Lewis, with Jace Sternberger and Robert Tonyan expected to serve in backup capacity. The Oregon product hasn't shown anything special to the Packers during the preseason. His recent injury hasn't helped his chances, but now that he's healthy he'll have a final shot to prove his worth.
