3 Players the Red Sox Should Explore Trading This Offseason
By Parker White
After winning the World Series and being lauded as one of the greatest teams in franchise history, the Boston Red Sox fell flat on their face in 2019 and won just 84 games, which ended up costing GM Dave Dombrowski his job.
On paper, this team is very talented and could easily rebound in 2020. However, with a new front office coming into place, you can bet this roster will have plenty of changes coming down the pike.
With that in mind, here are three players the Red Sox should explore trading this offseason.
3. LHP David Price
David Price has three years at $96 million remaining on his contract, making it very difficult to find a buyer. However, the former Cy Young Award winner still has value as a top-of-the-rotation starter that teams are desperately looking for. Yes, his four seasons in Boston haven't been breathtaking, but you get him out of that city and put him on a team with less pressure and you might see the 2015 version of David Price that ended up being the runner-up for the Cy Young.
2. OF Mookie Betts
Mookie Betts is unquestionably the best player on the Red Sox. So, why trade him? It appears that Betts won't sign an extension before he hits free agency, which will happen following the 2020 season. Unless Boston is prepared to open the checkbook, again, they should really consider seeing what they can get in return for the former MVP, even though he has only one year left.
1. OF Jackie Bradley Jr.
Jackie Bradley Jr. has been a trade candidate for years now, and with him entering the final season of his deal, there's no reason to believe the Red Sox won't dangle him out there on the market, again. Bradley is a plus defender, but his offense leaves a lot to be desired. Yes, he hit 21 home runs in 2019, but he hit .225 and reached base at a .317 clip. Boston can do better than that, and after seven seasons in Beantown, it looks like JBJ will always be an average to below average hitter.
