3 Players the Saints Won't Be Able to Afford if They Sign Alvin Kamara to Long-Term Extension

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara is entering a contract year and the team has a big decision to make regarding his future. Should they take their chances and let him play the season out before paying him; offer him a long-term extension now considering he's coming off a down year, or let him hit the open market?

He's a game-changer for sure, but we know the stigma that comes with paying running backs big money, especially when you consider the Saints a team that can plug a lot of skilled players into their offense. If they do opt to sign him, here are three players they probably won't be able to afford given their salary cap situation.

3. Larry Warford

Warford is a seasoned veteran and will likely command a lucrative multi-year deal when he hits free agency after this season. Ever since arriving in New Orleans back in 2016, the 28-year-old made three straight Pro Bowls and has missed only four games. He's been one of the key pieces of the Saints' offense and he'll certainly be looking to cash out after this successful run he's had.

2. Taysom Hill

The Saints were able to get Taysom Hill back for 2020 because he's a restricted free agent, but that won't be the case next year. With rumors swirling in regards to New Orleans possibly taking their quarterback of the future in this draft, Hill, who has said before his ultimate goal is to be a starting signal-caller, will 100% explore his options elsewhere and look to make the most money possible after serving as Sean Payton's Swiss Army knife to start off his career.

1. Marcus Williams

The 23-year-old stud safety has started all but two games since entering the league in 2017 and another big year will likely price him out of New Orleans. Williams already has 187 tackles, 23 passes defensed and 10 interceptions across three seasons. The Saints will have to save their money wisely because Marshon Lattimore will be due for a big contract after the 2021 season. Williams might not be able to stick around.
