3 Players Who Definitely Won't Be on the Brewers' Roster Next Year

Quite frankly, it's a miracle the Milwaukee Brewers even made the Wild Card Game this year, especially with Christian Yelich getting hurt in September. Kudos to the players and the coaching staff for coming together down the stretch, but this team, especially in the pitching department, was flawed and needs to change that if they want any chance at competing in the deep NL Central in 2020.

Ownership needs to loosen the purse strings a little more to help elevate the rotation and the Brew Crew will have to let some players walk in order to make that a reality.

3. RHP Matt Albers

Albers simply cannot stay unless the Brewers want to waste money or make their bullpen worse. The right-hander will be a free agent and there's no reason to re-sign him when he's pitched in 101 games over the last two years only to register an ERA above 6.00. He's valuable as an innings eater in blowout games, and that's about it.

2. RHP Jimmy Nelson

The Brewers believed that Jimmy Nelson would anchor their rotation for years to come, but then he suffered a severe injury and has pitched in only 39 games (32 starts) over the last three seasons, including 10 appearances this year where he went 0-2 with a 6.95 ERA. The 30-year-old doesn't look like the pitcher he once was, making him a perfect non-tender candidate. Milwaukee needs to cut bait and move on from Nelson to spend those millions elsewhere.

Brewers GM David Stearns can make it known that he wants to keep Mike Moustakas and Yasmani Grandal, but unless both of them want to take a discount to stay, it's just not going to happen. Both have mutual options that won't vest, as the two are coming off impressive 2019 seasons. The more valuable player is Grandal, as the catcher position is the weakest in the sport and he's among the best. Whether Brewers fans like it or not, they do have Travis Shaw to replace Moustakas and play third base, while Keston Hiura looks like a star at second. If Milwaukee is going to dish out big money to keep one of them, Grandal makes the most sense.
