3 Players Who Definitely Won't Be on the Rangers Roster Next Season
By Ryan Giglio
The Texas Rangers are expected to look vastly different in 2020. To go with the opening of a brand new ballpark, GM Jon Daniels will look to field an exciting team to usher in the next winning era of Rangers baseball. However, changes will definitely be made to a team currently in its third consecutive losing campaign.
1. OF/DH Hunter Pence
Fan favorite Hunter Pence rejuvenated his career for Texas this year. However, while speaking about the 2019 All-Star's future with the Rangers, Daniels recently said there may not room on next year's roster for another corner outfielder/DH, indicating the potential free-agent is likely to sign somewhere else in the offseason.
2. OF Delino DeShields Jr
The speedy Delino DeShields is great at patrolling the Texas outfield, but the Rangers may run out of patience with his below-average bat. DeShields is set to earn more than his current $1.4 million salary through arbitration in 2020, and Daniels may not be inclined to pay that much for a glove-first player.
3. OF Nomar Mazara
The one-time top prospect Nomar Mazara has disappointed to a career 93 OPS+ in four full seasons for Texas. Teams never like to give up on talent, but Mazara may be best suited for a change of scenery. The 24-year-old should carry enough trade value for Daniels to receive package of intriguing prospects to bolster the Rangers farm. Look for Willie Calhoun to take Mazara's at-bats in 2020.
