3 Players Who Definitely Won't Be on the Texans Roster Next Year
The Houston Texans stormed back against the Buffalo Bills in the NFL postseason, but ultimately, it swiftly became time to begin thinking about what to do with the many pending free agents on the roster. Three players stand out as those who will be gone next season, regardless of how their individual postseasons go.
3. TE Darren Fells
Darren Fells had the best year of his career during the 2019 regular season. He had a career-high 341 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He is, however, turning 34 in April, and the Texans have three younger and cheaper tight ends on the roster through 2021. Fells may command a multi-year deal, and the Texans could be hesitant to give that to someone his age.
2. RB Lamar Miller
Lamar Miller had a chance to have a true breakout year in 2019. Then came a season-ending knee injury that allowed Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson to shine with the Texans. Both Miller and Hyde are free agents, while Johnson is under contract through 2021. Hyde led the team with over 1,000 yards in 2019, and is clearly the better option over a recovering Miller in 2020.
1. OLB Barkevious Mingo
Barkevious Mingo was the No. 6 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, and has likely stuck around based on reputation. He played in all 16 games this year after being traded to Houston from Seattle, but only recorded six total tackles the entire season. Mingo is simply not producing, and at 29 years old, the Texans would be wise to give opportunities to other individuals.
