3 Players Who Must Step up for Packers in Davante Adams Absence
By Sean Facey
Davante Adams doesn't seem to be anywhere close to returning from his toe injury, and that leaves the Packers scrambling for options on offense. Adams has been Aaron Rodgers' favorite target over the past few years, especially in the red zone. Without him creating scoring opportunities and gaining chunk yardage, these three players absolutely need to step up for Green Bay.
1. Aaron Jones
Aaron Jones has already played a critical role for the Packers on offense this year, highlighted by his four touchdowns against the Cowboys. Now, he needs to keep his foot on the throttle as the team will likely lean on him a bit more with Adams sidelined. It's time for Jones to prove he's a top running back in the league.
2. Jimmy Graham
Now in his second year with the team, Graham has still yet to show the playmaking ability that made him such a lethal target earlier in his career. There's no need for him to be a world-beater necessarily, but he needs to do more than average just 30 yards per game. If Graham can emulate some of his past form, the Packers' passing game would benefit immensely.
3. Marquez Valdes-Scantling
Valdes-Scantling has had a fine year under the tutelige of Rodgers and head coach Matt LaFleur, but he needs to fully embrace the role of being the team's top receiver. He's second on the team in targets to the absent Adams and is averaging 13.1 yards per reception. All he has to do is step completely into the spotlight and he'll be able to help spearhead the offensive attack while Adams recovers.
