3 Players Who Will Be Left off the Yankees' ALCS Roster

The rematch the Yankees have been longing for is finally here. After getting bounced in seven games by the Astros in the 2017 ALCS, the two squads are set to meet yet again in 2019 with a trip to the World Series on the line.

Unfortunately, not every player will get to participate in New York's quest for revenge. Here's a look at three players who we believe won't make the cut for the Yankees' ALCS roster.

3. Cameron Maybin

Cameron Maybin may have delivered the dagger with his late home run in Game 3 of the ALDS, but it won't be enough to earn him a spot on the roster for the next round. Star outfielder Aaron Hicks has made great strides in recovering from injury, and all signs point to him being ready to go for the ALCS. This, of course, means that Maybin won't be necessary. He's had a nice year in New York, but the team's best chance of winning is with Hicks in the lineup.

2. Jonathan Loaisiga

Like Maybin, Loaisiga played a minor, but pivotal role in the Yankees' systematic dismantling of the Minnesota Twins, but it won't be enough to keep him on the roster. CC Sabathia increasingly seems to be a lock for the ALCS, and it seems only fair that the retiring veteran get a crack at playoff baseball over the 24-year-old righty.

1. Luke Voit

This isn't a question of talent so much as it is depth for the Yankees. Luke Voit is undoubtedly a quality hitter, but he didn't see the field once during the ALDS in part due to the fact that DJ LeMahieu was playing first base and Edwin Encarnacion was available as a backup. Carrying three first basemen in a series against the Astros just doesn't make sense when the Yankees would be better off adding a 13th pitcher into the mix. While Voit has had a stellar year for the Yankees, he's just not necessary for the team's success in the ALCS.
