3 Players Who Won't Be on Eagles Roster Next Season
By Scott Rogust
Give credit where credit is due. The Philadelphia Eagles overcame numerous debilitating injuries to win the NFC East in 2019. Even so, the team had very little chance to make a run in the playoffs.
That proved to come to a head quickly, as the Eagles fell to the Seattle Seahawks 17-9 in the Wild Card Round, after quarterback Carson Wentz left the game due to an injury. With their season now over, the Eagles will look to improve the team, but have a plethora of players that are set to hit the open market.
Here are three players who won't return next season, amid the chaos.
3. CB Ronald Darby
Back in 2017, the Eagles made a splash by acquiring cornerback Ronald Darby from the Buffalo Bills. That move turned out to be good at the time, as his play helped put the Eagles over the edge and win Super Bowl LII. Ever since, he's been injury prone. In 2018, he tore his ACL. This past season, after signing a one-year, $6.5 million deal, he was placed on injured reserve following Week 16 with a hip injury. The Eagles need to drastically overhaul their secondary, and letting Darby walk would be their best option. In fact, the secondary didn't look very impressive until after Darby was gone.
2. RB Jordan Howard
The Eagles spent last offseason bolstering their roster in hopes of securing their second Lombardi Trophy. One of those moves was acquiring running back Jordan Howard from the Chicago Bears. While he did shine early on in the season, a shoulder injury knocked him out for six games. In that span, the Eagles saw the rise of Miles Sanders and Boston Scott. There's no need for Howard on the roster, especially considering the hefty price tag he'll likely command.
1. WR Nelson Agholor
While many Eagles fans are on the fence about quarterback Carson Wentz, it's possible there is no player more universally hated by the fanbase than wideout Nelson Agholor. While he had his moments early on in his career, this season has given us the opposite. Agholor was plagued by drops, which accounted for 30 of his 69 targets. Not to mention, a nagging knee injury sidelined him for the final month of the season. Given he's a free agent, don't expect the Eagles to bring him back.
