3 Players Who Won't Be on the Cardinals Postseason Roster
By Parker White
The St. Louis Cardinals could sneak up on people when the playoffs roll around, as they have a loaded bullpen, and their starting staff has been prolific in recent weeks. That is the strength of this team, so you can bet they'll load up in that area when coming out with their postseason roster. With preparation in mind, here are three players who won't be on the Cardinals' postseason roster.
3. INF Yairo Munoz
Matt Carpenter may see more time coming off the bench late in games come October, especially with the emergence of Tommy Edman, who has positional versatility in the infield and outfield. That doesn't leave Yairo Munoz with a clear role, as he doesn't bring much of an offensive threat to the table.
2. RHP Dominic Leone
After a very good campaign with the Blue Jays in 2017, Dominic Leone has struggled as a member of the Cardinals. Though over his last 15 relief appearances, he owns a 2.70 ERA, St. Louis still has too much pitching depth to find a spot for Leone.
1. OF Jose Martinez
This may come as a shock, considering Jose Martinez has been a middle-of-the-order staple for the last couple seasons, but he's been far from that in 2019. Martinez, who is a known liability defensively, is hitting just .266 with 10 home runs this season. Tyler O'Neill is the better choice as a backup outfielder and pinch-hitter, and Randy Arozarena could be locked in as a pinch-runner late in games. He's been worth negative WAR in 2019; if he makes the postseason, he'll be a liability by design.
