3 Players Who Won't Be on the Potential Mets' Postseason Roster
By Parker White
The New York Mets still need an impressive run to make the playoffs as a Wild Card team, as they're three games back entering Saturday, but they have the pitching and enough offensive firepower to earn a postseason berth. If the Amazins make it happen, here are three players who won't make it.
3. RHP Paul Sewald
This is Paul Sewald's third season out of the Mets bullpen, and he's yet to show he can be a productive reliever. He owns a 5.06 ERA in 13 appearances this season, so he will not be on a Mets' playoff team.
2. RHP Brad Brach
The New York Mets were hoping Brad Brach could become a late-inning option, especially with the struggles of Edwin Diaz and Jeurys Familia, but now they understand why the Cubs let him go, as he's made 11 appearances and owns a 5.40 ERA. The lack of bullpen depth might give Brach a chance of making it because of his experience, but on production alone, he can't be relied upon.
1. INF Jed Lowrie
Maybe Jed Lowrie can be the driving force over these last couple of weeks to get the Mets over the top, but it seems unlikely. Lowrie has yet to get a start and is hitless in a couple of pinch-hit appearances. With Robinson Cano's emergence and the good work from J.D. Davis and Todd Frazier, there isn't a spot for Lowrie to get regular at-bats, which he sorely needs to make an impact.
